Checkmate
Darkness brings black thoughts,
But with every night comes a dawn
And every dark knight has his pawns,
Things that we throw away like extra pieces
Until they reach the other side of the
Chessboard of life
And came back as queens.
A transformation into something lost
Too long ago to remember,
A passion forgotten but back comes the fire of the night
And the fury of every pawn sent into the trap
Of society where kings are held in checkmate,
And every castle we build around ourselves
Have been broken and
Endgame is at hand,
The moment of the final play
The decision to fight the night and return to the light
Or just be another pawn,
Put that knife down,
Become queen,
Surmount the insurmountable,
Do the impossible,
Forget your value and make it your own.
Become the end to the games played with your heart
And the little tricks played on your image,
Imagine a place where you are however you want to be,
Be there.
Be the queen who holds every game in checkmate,
Who holds the eye of every fallen foe,
Who stands proud to be the victor
Of the chess game we call life.
