The Blood Eagle
Resisting the urge,
Fighting the temptation,
To tear my insides apart-
Splay them about me like red wings
Flightless, into falling snow
Until I am buried in cold.
My blood splattering a canvas-
Wildly divine... raw and honest,
The world moving with me,
Finally beautiful in yellow eyes
I long to gouge out.
For hollow bones did soar then snap,
These dull claws did turn on me,
Hunting only to remain a hunter.
Prey on my soul:
The strong blood eagle
The Great Pretender
Imagination is fatal,
Gilded cages can still hold ugly things,
Lies are arrows we shoot ourselves
And while mine may be applauded-
I ache with skies of knowledge
That will die with me.
