Time is fathomed:
Holding up the denizens of Earth
In times of glory,
Slipping through fingers
As hope plummets.

Time is fathomed:
In sea of tears and gore,
Hundreds lost in massacre-
Mass shootings, individual on-air shootings,
The City of Love ravaged
By hostility and terror.
The baths of blood
Leaves oceans of grief and tears.

Time is fathomed:
In seas of bliss and delight,
And discovering new horizons,
The flyby of Pluto’s icy, mystery realm,
NASA detecting liquid water on Mars,
Developing countries free of disease,
As benefitting technologies emerge!
Leaving an ocean of hope and aspiration.

Time is fathomed:
2015 of grand significance
In seas of ebullient joy,
In seas of grave torments,
Leaving an ocean of memories.

2015: An Ocean of Time is a poem inspried by the moving newspaper headlines, both tragic and joyous. In this piece, the year is compared to the ocean, seas, and any body of water, as to fathom is to measure the sea. Using the idea of a sea of memories, I wrote the poem to show that although evil appears in the world, hope can still emerge.
