Hooves Pound and Wheels Whirl - The Chariot Races
The crowd cheers... the procession proceeds. The Hippodrome illuminates... anxiousness ignites. Horses hooked; ready... charioteers charge.
Whips; snap, crack... 16 hooves pound the ground.
Left-handed turns... wheels skid around the tight turn.
Far right horse... pushes to stay in line.
Wooden wheels whirl... determination drives the final stretch.
The leading team... charioteer shouts and four horses sprint
Hooves pound the ground… tearing through the line of silk.
The chariot and horses lavish in astonishing prizes.
Prizes; exuberant pots filled with olive oil.
Charioteer and horse; like a hero just
returned from battle.
