Wishing To Be Able To Smile
A young girl
Shoulder length, dark hair,
like a flat-coated retriever
her hair in smooth knots
her nails unwashed
and rounded
A drawing that wraps itself around her face
makes her seem as if she’s smiling
though her upset and annoyed expression
show her unsatisfactory
Her small frame
In a kimono,
Black and white,
Sitting, bored of her poor life
A flower with white petals
Held in her hand,
Leading up to her hairy arms
Dry, unclean skin
Her thin straight eyebrows
And dull brown eyes looking away
Imagining a better place
Wishing to be able to smile
