Walking
We are all walking.
Pacing down the long sidewalk.
Now passing up the mile marker,
For the sixth time in a row.
I want to sleep, so I take my walking slow.
I feel my feet ache in pain.
I can’t take this feeling.
Hopefully only three more to go
I feel my body ache step by step.
I want to sleep, so I take my walking slow.
The ones running beside me are walking just as slow.
My heart climbs up a winding stair,
Grasping for air.
I want to sleep, so I take my walking slow.
The leader calls out two miles to go.
We all speed up, ready to finish.
This shaking is making me unsteady.
My legs would know.
I try not to stop because we’re all so close.
There’s no time for walking slow.
We’ve finally made it
Zero miles to go.
