Fire Girl

He wrote of being my candle in the darkness;
to him I was a lost girl. A shadow girl.
I played at kindness for the sake of his honor.
Poor boy.
As someone who claimed to know my soul
after years of acquaintance,
he had surely missed a few pieces of me
in his perfect puzzle.
My father calls me Fire Girl
(he noted the piece that boy overlooked).
I have no need for candles
for there is an inferno in my bones.
