Where I'm From
I’m from Watertown and
Waukesha, trees soaring over head
with California Pines, multi-colored flowers,
I’m from a ranch style home,
pets scattered in the living room,
in the basement, and in my bedroom.
I’m from vacations to Florida,
bumping into people every direction I went,
swimming in the crystal blue, Atlantic Ocean,
laying in sand, white as snow,
seeing dolphins hopping in and out of the water.
I’m from trips to Chicago,
buildings soaring over head--
sounds above my head,
music, cars, sirens, voices.
I know I’m back in my favorite place when
I hear “Big U”--
I know one of the bros is talking to me.
I’m from a split family--
step siblings, and step parents.
I’m from Mom’s house and Dad’s house.
I’m from Arrowhead High School…
forever a Warhawk I will be.
