Stars and Stripes of Life
Fear surges through my head,
As I solute the green grass surrounding your deep, dark hole.
The colors in faces around me are drowning in tears.
Your life will be left in a sea of red,
Now wrapped in a blanket of stars and stripes.
My sorrow rests in the dark sky, As your soul flies away, we all say goodbye.
A rose is gently placed, on your lifeless chest.
As you lay in silence, my sadness builds.
My “soildier” will fight on in my memories.
Our nation is thankful you were here,
As you were placed in honorable grounds,
The war guns ring out.
A flag placed in my arms is all I have left.
I cling to your tags as tears reflect my loss.
