Where I'm From
I am from the green house in front of Hawksnest park,
with the curved asphalt driveway.
I am from the sweaty summers and the freezing winters,
the state loving cheese and dairy
I am from a town of 9,000,
fanatic about “Friday Night Lights.”
From the 6:00 a.m.,
to the “Good luck today” or the “Don’t be tardy,”
from the practices every weekday,
to the games on the weekend.
From the sleepovers on Saturdays,
to the falling asleep in Sunday morning masses.
I am from grass stains in the backyard,
hours of playing catch with Dad.
I am from eating cookie dough off the wooden spoon,
baking cookies with Mom in the kitchen.
I am from family dinners at 7 o’clock,
not forgetting to pray before we eat.
I am from the green house in front of Hawksnest park,
with the curved asphalt driveway.
I am from a family of four,
filled with love and laughter.
I am from a special place in my heart,
I am from home.
