A disproving judge with an angry face
Glared upon the crowd
A mother wept and a father groaned
And a girl raised her hand above the holy book
While the judge stared down

Innocence, she claimed
But her cries were unheard
The judge raised his voice,
For the evidence was clear
And the death sentence fell like a blow

Furious, the girl stood, her hair whipping about
As if on an unfelt wind
She screamed herself hoarse
The judge raised his hand
And his law-man took the girl away

Her captor took her outside
And gazed at her with sympathy,
The judge was wrong, and he knew it so.
Speaking softly, for her innocence was sweet
He kissed her gently, and let the accused witch go

The author's comments:

I wrote this short piece on a whim as part of a different project on the theme of witches. It took about half an hour to write it. I hope to get contructive critisism on my work so that I can improve it over time.
