Shoes

The was a man who was always blue
He had worn these five very different shoes
I couldn't understand why he was so glum
So I made an exchange for fun
To wear his shoes for a year

The first pair was easy
The style was similar to mine
My coworkers said they looked cheesy
But I didn't seem to mind
And for those days I plastered a smile from ear to ear

The second pair was puzzling
The shoes were far too large
They kept falling off. I was shuffling
I got fired because I didn't look in charge
The thought of a new pair brought fear

The third pair was more troublesome
The shoes I could only wear them reversed
I often got lost in them and my encounters became quarrelsome
To avoid conflict everything I said had to be rehearsed
By the end I could no more shed a tear

The fourth pair was the last straw
The shoes were far beyond tight
Blisters appeared as the shoe began to claw
My feet were covered entirely and never saw any light
But I knew the last was near

The last pair was nothing the sad man lied to me
All I had was a tag around my toe
I nicknamed the shoe 'defeat'
I know why I ended up here the shoes left me no other place to go
I plead no others to come here

I understand the man I have a clue
An apology I wish I could forge
I know why he didn't have a 5th shoe
After all there are no shoes in the morgue

I was up at 2am and I thought of shoes, thus this child was born.
