"My motto as I live and learn, is dig and be dug in return."--Langston Hughes

Think of a box,
A box with trees
And water and grass
and birds and bees.

Think of the water in the box,
which flows to the end
and then quickly recedes
away from the grass and
birds and bees.

Think of the grass in the box,
As high as it be.
With no water,
it will never know
just how tall
it can grow.

Think of the birds in the box,
which try to fly
with no pond nearby
and after falling
they don't think
that they can fly high without a drink.

Think of the bees in the box.
Without watery eyes,
they cannot be told
to drink their tears
that made them
gold.

in this box
as you see
water does
not flow freely,
and without this creative wave of mind
no living thing
can stay alive.

The grass cannot grow
old and wise
the birds cannot bear
their free glide.
And the bees cannot pride
their fearful side.

Think in this box, and see

if in a box you would like to be.
