Fear>Change
They have made it crystal clear
They have no room here for me
This is not where I belong
My body is not the right shape,
My skin is not the right color,
I am too fortunate to be helped up,
But not rich enough to pay
I can’t stay home with the children I love,
For them I am a stereotype.
But they say no work is right for me,
They have no room here for me.
If I dance among the trees they find me whimsical and foolish,
But my retreat from their words makes me rude and unthinking.
You’ll never be enough for them,
God knows I never was,
They’ll never make room,
They’ll push you away,
Darling it’s because they are scared.

This piece talks about the fear of change and the speakers experience with not being supported by "them", society, because she isn't "right". It ends with her telling another person, presumably younger that they shouldn't worry that society won't help them because sociey is simply scared.
