It's Her, Not Me
I can tell you the most beautiful things in this world
But somehow,
For some reason,
That still won’t make you love me,
That’s why I’m not yours anymore.
Like
You pressed your lips upon my skin.
And although it was only my then red-hot cheek
I knew you could see my soul yearning for your kisses.
Or
You were standing above me
As I lie on your dark brown living room couch.
I wanted to be alone but
You picked me up and carried me into your room.
I was placed on your lap and I felt
Every broken piece of me gathered in your arms.
I knew you could see my soul yearning for your hugs as I melted in your arms.
Even
Our long night drives back to our houses
After a whole day together
And knowing the only home I have has a beating heart
And eyes that can see my soul yearning for more.
And
Although I lack vision,
I can see your soul.
I can see you.
I can see us.
So
When I look into your eyes I expect to see myself,
I expect to see everything that means anything to you,
Because you say it’s me.
But when I look into your eyes I can’t see myself.
I don’t see me, because it isn’t me.
Because it’s her, it has always been her.
