Amazing Grace
I see you from across the road
Through a cloud of dust.
Broken sandals, scruffy beard,
Your rugged appearance
Making you look common.
But when I catch your eye
I cannot hold your stare;
You are much more than you appear
I'm drawn toward your voice,
Gentle over the commotion,
Through the crowd, closer still.
You're not from around here
Yet somehow I still
Understand every word you say
And feel the meaning of your message
As I sink to my knees in awe of you.
I follow you as you leave here,
Out to the edge of town,
To where dust clouds lap at your heels.
We walk side by side,
Two pairs of foot prints,
Then suddenly one
And two again after the storm,
Proving that you are exactly who they say
I turn to you and avert my eyes
For I am far from worthy
To gaze upon your face
And take in your glory.
You gently touch my head and bid me rise
For my slate has been wiped clean;
And I depart praising the Trinity.
I Believe.
