We straddle our barriers. We bridge our gaps.
Still all the while our memories lapse.
So much we’re becoming. So much we regret.
And so many a trouble not finished quite yet.

Ignoring that fatal patterns stew.
‘You see?’ some cry, ‘we never change’
We beg of us to rearrange.
But all who cry are swept along,
And we chime out our fighting song.
‘To war,’ say those who look inside,
‘To death,’ say those who shrink and hide.
And nonetheless, we suicide,
With homicide and genocide.
Always perceptive and yet so blind,
We’re shouting the anthem of humankind.
It isn’t a chant meant to be revered,
It is our death, it is meant to be feared.
