Excuses
I turn on the news
looking for my daily dose of
lies and depression.
Today: a childs passing
starts an outrage around the country.
In his death he becomes a martyr,
for anarchists and thugs.
An excuse to riot and
wreak havoc around the cities.
Instead of peaceful protest
or productive discussion,
uninvolved cars lie flipped on their side,
and innocent buildings flare up
from stray molotovs.
All I see is the death of a child,
All they see is an excuse to debate
issues of race and oppressive government.
A chance for arsonists to
fully unleash their passion
which burns ever so brightly.
A spark to ignite the common man
to stand up against unfair taxes
and restrictive laws.
They don’t see the death of a child.
There only is the death of a child.
