Shattered Glass
A languid blanket of mist hovers above,
And caresses the flawless, blue sheet of glass
I bend towards the opalescent surface, intrigued
I discern only my wobbly silhouette,
Framed by the dappled sun,
A never-ending ocean, abandoned by the waves,
Is my background
I raise one hand; my reflection complies
A pastel blue curtain, draped behind me
And my mocking reflection
I hear the distinctive rustle of leaves
Like thousands of candy wrappers unfurling
The sound of the wind as it approaches
Resonates off the reflecting water,
Increases the noise
The breeze accelerates,
Transforms into an arrow, flying through the air,
Aiming for the tiny, blood red bull’s eye in the center,
Its target
The arrow strikes surface,
Cracks it,
Millions of diminutive puzzle pieces to a broken mirror,
Separated and ripped apart,
Each reflecting a copy of a similar image
Shattered glass.
