Marmalade Memories
I love to wonder and ponder the past
The bittersweet moments that never seemed to last
The fire in my heart that would cool only to reignite
And the fountains of sorrow that flowed throughout the night
However, amongst the red roses I always found the single blue
The symbol of impossibility that transformed my heart anew
And its thornless stem forever in my grasp
Though lacking typical protection it contained a far powerful sap
So my heart in its petals and my face in its leaves
the reflection only those around me have the ability to perceive
and it’s delicate in appearance, but strength in its seams
the other side of the looking-glass I often saw in my dreams
And so reliving my feelings in watching a cylinder film
The nine thousand more memories yellowing around its rim
The counter-the-clock spin pervades my tongue with a sour taste
But then I discover the deep-hidden sweetness like a marmalade paste
So I never thought composed confusion urged my smile both ways
Rather my marmalade memories tranced me into a pleasing malaise!
