Lorelei
Her pale feet trail across the dark waves
in an arcane dance.
The winds take her tangled hair,
whispering songs into her ears.
She joins their song, crying out,
“Be with me until time dies.”
Her shrill voice carries to the silver stones,
to a weary man who lies there wishing only for rest.
He lifts his mangy head from the grit and sand.
Upon seeing the spirit, upon seeing her turn to him
with eyes of gold, he brings himself to his feet.
She is buffeted about by the waves
as they scurry to bow to her naked form.
In the shadow of the moon,
cast in a shade of sea green she smiles.
She smiles gaily for all the world,
charming the stars into her eyes.
The man dragged himself from the cold, unfeeling shore
to the surf that laps excitedly at his boots.
She has taken no notice of him.
Even as he approaches her,
she gives him no passing glance.
At last, he had reached her.
He stood, up to his chin in the sea,
while she yet danced atop the waves.
When the waves had begun to force themselves into his mouth,
with sweet melodies in their ebb and flow,
she turned her face of flawless alabaster to him.
She smiled with lips like coral, and knelt to his level.
He gazed up at her with imploring eyes,
desperate for her.
She only ran a gentle finger over his face,
tracing around his jaw and up again.
Leaning down, she kissed him where his lips were below the water.
The breath he had been holding to stave off the playful waves
was gone.
He gave it all to her,
and she took it greedily.
He would forever be with his Lorelei.
