Metal Fingers
the narrow smile has been stretched
along the child’s laminated face.
feet, clownish on the grounds they walk
uneasy on.
he heard them talking to each other
in the tongue of shrieks
into the sea of his ancient pains.
the sun turned black the day his heart did.
the flashing remarks sounded like
police sirens below his criminal skin
beyond the mirrors,
beneath the skin
the blood runs thin.
the eager stroke of metal fingertips along his skin.
