I’m from coloring in my pink, barbie coloring books
Markers and crayons
Trying to stay in the lines

I’m from a four bedroom house on the corner of the street
painted a dirty white.
No one knew the secrets that lied within those walls

I’m from waking up at 3 am to screaming, “This isn’t fair!”
feeling alone and scared.
“I don’t think we will make it” haunts me nightly.

I’m from coming to a new place where I didn’t know people
Which made it impossible to fit in
Having to deal with being a misfit made my l

I’m from a three room apartment with windows with cobwebs hanging from each side
A family of six.
Learning to adapt might be the death of me

I’m from getting dirty looks and getting made fun of my short hair
which my sister cut because she was bored.
Making friends was never something I was a professional at.

I’m from a place where dreams are in your head and stay there.
You can dream it, but you won’t achieve it
But I promised myself on that dusty, white swing, I’ll prove them wrong

I’m from a place where I have a voice
I have a chance to be heard.
Speaking my mind won’t be a problem anymore

I’m from a place where if you dream it, you can achieve it.
Hard work pays off
I made it
