Growing Up
Time passed swiftly, quietly.
Silently, really.
Patiently, painstakingly waiting
Ever since childhood to grow up.
And then you blink.
Everything's changed, like waking up from a dream. You're taller and the baby fat has melted from your body.
But that's not all that's changed.
All of a sudden things make sense,
As if you've somehow cracked the code.
Things that used to be mind boggling become easier.
The people you grew up with begin to change, too,
Not always for the better.
The things we all swore, we swore, we'd never do
Become habit.
How, how can you be so blind
To throw this precious life away
With get happy quick schemes/
Fools.
