Poseidon's Sea
The last rays of Helios’ sun pierce the horizon
Tainted golden and rose, animated patches of sunset
dance across my surface
Schools of fish create their own mosaic
With their shimmering flashes of dance
They bubble their way to the surface to bid their farewell to the day
As the sea has its final dance with the light
The shards of sunshine paint a sanctuary beneath the waves
That I have so carefully crafted
As I watch the sun decline and the darkness prevail
The water grows dark, as though poisoned
By the black ink of the unknown
The fish scurry down to my sandbed, fearful of the night
And all that it encompasses
Much like the fish, the last scatters of light
Find no solace, but only the bones of the forgotten men
Who fought against and lost dearly to my great waters.
