Life Doesn't Freighten Me
I see dark, terrifying skies.
I see dirty, polluted air.
I see starving children, wondering when a meal might come next.
I see beat up, broken women.
But no, life doesn’t frighten me.
I hear loud, piercing cries.
I hear endless echoes of screaming and yelling.
I hear constant lying of those who say they will do something, and never do.
I hear crashing and burning of once beautiful homes.
But no, life doesn’t frighten me.
I smell lingering scents of young, fresh death.
I smell fear in children looking for their deceased parents.
I smell pain and torture of the innocent.
I smell destruction across the sandy plains.
But no, life doesn’t frighten me.
I taste bitterness on my wondering tongue.
I taste disease infested water.
I taste sourness towards the oblivious ones.
I taste sweet revenge for the innocent.
But no, life doesn’t frighten me.
I feel sympathy for those who witnessed and experienced the destruction.
I feel all hope for humanity, gone.
I feel sorrow from others lift the smoky, light air.
I feel lost.
But no, life doesn’t frighten me.
No, life doesn’t frighten me.
People frighten me.
