Something About Midnight
Midnight has been my friend for as long as I can remember
Something about its silence
Its presence
Its mystery
A connection deeper than I can grasp
Something about midnight
So sometimes, in the shadows of my bedroom on warm summer nights
I’ll sit
And I’ll wait
Until 11:59 fades away
And quietly and swiftly
Without the house ever really realizing
I’ll slip through the peeling window frame
And onto the rough shingles of the moonlit roof
I’ll recline and turn my eyes to the stars
I’ll gaze
And I’ll pray
And I’ll let my mind guide me to thoughts I can find nowhere else
Humans are made to love, to react, to feel
You are here for a purpose
I am here for a purpose
And together we can be infinite
So let’s pinky promise to make our mark
Let’s walk together and make something more of this life
Put aside the distractions and lift our heads high
And show them that we have the power to dream
To succeed
To fly
