Madness
pale eyes, blank with madness,
deaf ears that hear the most delicate
of laughs and most innocent
of conversations and turn them
into plays on Broadway
stage lights burn eyes
heavy yellowy, dust-circling glare
shadow that follows me
to the corner store and back
home
alone, silence and cacophony
suffocate memories in dog-eared photos
from the day warmth became cold
and cold froze to glass
no monkey-grins or ponytails,
just pale eyes and deaf ears
