Rosebud
snow melted away from our summer’s day
leaving a wincing rose and bud
although the fragrance had drifted away
there was plenty left to say
roots had binded together
but our colors had changed
I didn’t realize our petals could be the same
us blushing roses, we speak
of what snow melts can leave
of a bud thawing slowly in mud
sun erodes snow and sheds light
on you
if only you, the bud could know
that to me, your colors show
I wish
oh how I wish you could know
so I could water your leaves
with the rivers I see
what snow melts leave
are new colors and rosy dreams
petals waiting
waiting to open and be free
