Winding down a known road,
heading home.
Then CRASH! You spin out of control.
You get hurt in the process and you see light.
The one they talk about where you feel warmth and start following it.

Then you wake up in a room never seen before,
beeping and whooshing sounds fill the white walled room.
Something in your mouth your trying to get out,
it's the thing making the whooshing sound.
Your chest rises and falls in time with the whooshing.
The beeping is the line above your right shoulder.
It jerks up then falls down.
Then you notice how your shoulder is not so clear
and you cannot turn your head to see it well.
Your ears can faintly hear.
Noticing your legs at the foot of the bed,
the one you woke up in.
It's not at all comfortable and you try to swing your legs off the edge of the bed.

They're still there they haven't moved like you thought they would,
but you try and wiggle your toes but you can't use those.
Somethings not quite right here.
The left arm can move but when you lift it you see the white ribbon,
it's wound around your wrist tightly and attaches to the railing on the mattress.
You're restrained and you're very confused.
Like your legs your right arm refuses to move,
it agitates you.
People come into the room, it's your wife.
You perk up and try to speak,
the tube in your mouth won't let you.
You want to say you love her, you probably wan't to hold her,
but you're held down and scared a little anxious too.

You're kids come up beside her,
and you want to reach out and hug them.
You think back to how you can't move.
Something tugs at your heart and you are then furious.
With the one hand you have you reach up and try and grab the whooshing thing,
your hand won't budge.

A white jacketed man comes in,
he speaks to you kids and wife then points at you.
You first see the tears in there eyes and but can't hear there cries.
The doctor puts something into your tube and your eyes feel heavy.
You wonder what happened when you saw that light,
and as you sink into sleep.
You go down very deep until the blackness consumes you.

My Dad was in a critical accident in September and I wrote a poem of what I thought his thoughts were during that time. He just got home in January.
