I cannot describe how much he meant. How much he loved me, how much I cared.
I cannot tell you how much I yearned for him, how much I cried for him, how much I loved him.
He was the first person to tell me he loved me, the first person to accept me,
The first person to cherish me,
Cody was more than a friend, or a boyfriend or a person,
He was kind and honest, compassionate and vulnerable.
When I was with him I didn’t care how much time drifted away.
I only cared about seeing him every day for the rest of my life.
When I was with him his green emerald eyes used to sparkle,
With hints of gold and blue,
His blonde hair used to be cut short, because he was in the military, and they made you have short hair.
But he told me when his time is up he would grow it shaggy and fluffy,
Like a cloud perched on his head,
And he wouldn’t have to fight for a cause, that we both did not support.
He didn’t believe in violence, or war, he was a hippie, a crazy hippie who joined the army,
To prove a point, that love can kill as much as hate, and that beauty comes in all forms,
Life, death, hate, love, envy, lust, war, peace,
He wanted to teach people, that you can use your words in troubled situations,
I believe when he was on that battle field,
He used his words; he told people how much they were needed by their country,
And how much they were needed back home.
He doesn’t know how much I needed him though, how much not just I but his family as well.
I told him his country could wait, that he didn’t need to reenlist to prove a point.
But he was a rebel, a true nature’s child, who was born to be wild.
He loved me, that’s all I need to know. That love can conquer any mountain,
Or any obstacle no matter how difficult of how high.
Life, death, war, peace.
His love will always be, his story will always live,
And I will teach his legacy.
