Best Friend
Best friends of three years
And how many days is that?
I haven't counted
But it's enough to leave lasting marks
To follow me through thick and thin
Or not?
Because I've only revealed the thinnest skin
I hoard the calluses with my bones that ache
Friends of 1,095 days doesn't know demons
Never have I shown you
Little silver lines on my arms
Or dark circles under my eyes
Thoughts of never waking up
How they swallow me whole like a tidal wave
I stay awake late at night
Pondering about how I could tell you
Such awful things
When all you have known is
A rainbow on a rainy day
But now you'll realize,
That a rainbow
Is just a trick of the light,
sweetheart
When in truth
I am nothing
But rain; your tears
Evaporating off your skin
And you'll still say friends of three years
When we haven't even reached 3 minutes
