How I Stand
Some people want everyone to know who they are,
My dreams and aspirations don’t go that far;
Some seek to rise far above all others,
I desire only to be there with all my brothers;
Some want to be the very best at what they do,
I just do my best with the skills I can accrue,
Some are motivated by money, power, and fame,
I let my love of what I do stake my every claim;
I only want to do what I cannot live without,
My heart is set; this is what my life is all about;
I derive power from live, and I love my dreams,
And my dreams appear small, or so it seems;
I want to be a pro Disk Golfer and a physicist,
Play in the NFL and be a psychologist,
Study Ichthyology and the art of philosophy,
All things I love, and things that are a part of me;
I would train ten years just to play one game,
Even if no one would remember my name;
College is in my future, years and more years,
If I have to I’ll study longer than all my peers,
Then accept a job where they are my superiors;
There is no other option; I must go the distance,
No matter how hard it is, no matter how intense;
I need to be there, the place my heart was meant for,
It doesn’t matter how I stand, as long as I’m through the door.
