Favorite Quote:
Forever and Always.

Lying flat on my back, calm
My carpet, woolen and soft,
Carefully lays over the hard floor base.
The green and white tiny checkered pattern gives the illusion of unison.

Lying flat on my back, calm
My fingers dig deep into the shallow carpet.
My tears coat my face as they fall.
Instead of soaking into the carpet,
They dwell on the tiny fibers.
A painful reminder my troubles won’t soon be gone.

Lying flat on my back, calm
There’s no use of getting up,
He never got up,
He never said another word,
He never got the chance.

Lying there, flat on his back,
Panic in his eyes,
Not knowing what to do or who to call,
The three seconds of terror ended his life.
The most vital part of any human being,
His heart,
Stopped within his fragile frame.

Lying flat on my back, calm,
No sounds escape my frozen lips.
The tears stream down my cheeks steadily.
He’s gone.

Lying flat on my back, calm
I float off the carpet,
Slowly off into the distance,
Far away where no one can find me.
Then the fantasy comes crashing to a halt,
I begin to fall
But I hold on tight to my soft, little cloud,
Never wanting to let go,
Then I realize, I’m still lying flat on my carpet floor.

Calm.

This is based on a tragic event in my life. I hope for people to understand the deeper meeting of how I felt during this difficult time.

I love this poem. The repetition and the simplicity of the poem really drives it home.
