A Mother's Love
naked, newborn robins
take refuge in the awkward embrace
of my hipbones.
they screech, these
blood curling, vein straining screams;
crying out in hunger,
for a love
they're desperate to receive.
not only do the
selfish little bastards expect me
to gather their food,
i must CHEW it for them.
oh- how it grows old!
to chew but never swallow;
my stomach yearns
for the satisfaction.
but i cannot kill the hunger,
without awakening
those god-awful screams.
and while silencing
the little monsters,
the dagger only digs
farther into the vulnerable,
pink flesh of my stomach.
i'm loosing my body
along with my mind
and i can't save one
without killing the other.
