Lights Out
I cannot seem to understand why
When we turn off the lights to go to bed,
We do not instantly fall into a deep sleep,
Yet we will stay awake for hours in the utter darkness,
Much like the daytime,
Though instead of thoughts containing
Remedial equations, irrational predicaments,
And “What’s for dinner, Mom”,
We are filled with the thoughts that
Make our cells stop dividing
And our bones start deteriorating.
