it was all i could do to not look down at my shoes.
when she reached down and helped me up from the sidewalk
it was the best day of my eleven years of life
when she introduced her name and smiled like an angel
it was all i could do to not look up from my shoes.
on the playground at school she kept the bullies at a distance
to see all their faces with her by my side
well she cursed all their names when they came around anyway
it was all i could do to not look up from my shoes.
well she moved away to Texas the beginning of the summer
she cried and said that i would do fine without her
she handed me a note and her soft hand brushed me
and it was all i could do to not look up from my shoes.
she wrote me every single day and asked me how i was doing
i told her everything was fine so that she wouldn't worry
but the bullies attacked me like wolves every single day
but one day she asked me why my head was always down
i smiled as i wrote, "because its all i can do not to look up from my shoes."
