To the One
Embrace me beneath the stars
that cascade in the sky
that cannot be counted,
hide me in Your arms
from innumerable heartaches,
with Your hand on my hand
and bosom upon my own
tie me to Yourself
and consume us in the love
on which You built the worlds.
Open my ears to Your soft voice—
Yours a solace always—
seek me in the shadows
as I sink
beneath those infinite eyes
that are weary of seeing the
corruption of evil;
for my hands did not
separate the firmament
nor measure the Earth
nor craft stars from light,
but I am dust,
I do not understand immensity;
therefore in mercy
encompass me, hold me
In Your spaciousness
or I will be
running, running, running
a race in vain and heartache,
embrace me, hold me
or I shall spend eternity in a grave without You.
