A For "Artist"
Everyone thinks I should be A for ashamed,
or A for alone, but I am A for able.
I am A for amazing, not A for afraid.
Why not be A for an astronaut,
so instead of scarring hearts,
we scar the moon
And we fly into space like there is no such thing as time,
so that we can freeze before our sins are whispered into strange ears
I have held secrets in my arms like sleeping children,
folding them into a blanket of promises that I will keep.
But I hear men and women tell my story,
as if they have crossed the labyrinth in my heart,
only to find A for “adulterer” written on its walls.
As if there is nothing more to me than the biggest sin I commit
Why not A for arrow,
but instead of shooting targets
we are shooting stars,
fulfilling wishes on dying a man's lips
We should all be A for acrobats,
so instead of twisting words,
we twist our bodies into art.
or better yet,
We should all be A for artists,
so that there is no such thing as a critic,
because if we all paint pictures on the air canvas,
and we color every sin so it is visible,
then every sin will be seen as beautiful.
