and I said there was nothing left of me, but you told me to be still
in the stale night air I could feel your heat near me, but I could not see you
you told me to trust in the things I could not see
and you walked further away from me until I was sure you were gone for good

I watched the moon through the branches and the moon watched me
I don’t know where her eyes went, but it must be lonely to be blind
the only thing she can do is listen

the night wind gets brisk and I wish you were still near me, radiating your warmth like a walking sun
light of my life
but you walked so far I couldn’t even make out the sound of the leaves beneath your feet

I sigh and the sound fills the stagnant space like wind fills an empty plastic bag
you told me to trust in the things I could not see
I couldn’t see you and I found it hard to believe you brought me to this place
I couldn’t see your love for me and I found it hard to believe that you had a heart and a mind that thought of me always

the wind picks up and now the leaves rustle and I can see how the moon is content on being second best
everybody misses this kind of thing while they’re sleeping
and quiet holds you in a sort of comforting trance

I feel your fingertips slide across my neck and I am not frightened
you told me to trust in things I could not see
and I could not see you, but you came back for me

I said there was nothing left of me and you told me to be quiet
you told me you trusted that there was something there, even though you could not see it
you trusted me and now you wanted me to trust you
in the black of the night, with only the blind moon casting her gaze upon us, all I can see of you is an inky silhouette
and even though I couldn’t see your lips, I trusted that they were there, and I kissed you goodnight
