Sidewalks
i saw you like i saw the stars.
you were beautiful, gleaming, a mystery. you were fragments of the sky and sometimes you were here and sometimes you weren’t.
i remember you like i remember the burns of old polaroid pictures, the warm twilight aftermath of a long july day, the way a cherry blossom browns around the edges after being overcome by so many sidewalk feet.
so sad and beautiful at the same time.
even as a child i felt this about you, how you knew things I did not. the things parents always told us that we would understand when we were old enough. we were the same age in numbers but you were always older that way. now that I'm older i still don't understand
I only understand, so many years later, the way you would watch the sun set, like you were looking past the sun.
