Foreign eyes search
the now historic scene
that cops oversee in hope
of preventing the horrific
incident from reoccurring.

They watch the shoes
which lay untouched
on the cold gravel
left behind or put
in memory of the lives lost.

The air is filled with
the violent flashes,
crashes of buildings
and the helpless screams.
Even months later

the events stick to the stone
like images to the brain.
Imprinting the world in a new way
taking the innocence
of fellow Americans.

The sneakers still sit
silently, listening to the rush
of people who
continue on
and the carpenters that rebuild.

Now a site to see
and a photo to take
Boston’s Boylston Street is remembered
as the place that took away
the safety of our country.
