for all of you, in late autumn
here is to our misfit band of bodies
the wretched, hopeful, broken and the new
we'll bravely stand and stay together
in this cold and golden weather
praying that our lips aren't turning blue
oh, if she loved us all we would not love her
as dearly as we do while she is free
aching eyes are ours and tired
legs are bound, our hearts are mired
but our faces are turned to the light she sees
we belong to all the ardent words we whisper
and all we are is in the hands we hold
out of love but young and wild
we are breathless and beguiled
and our futures stir beneath the stories we've told
so here is to our misfit band of bodies
terminally wrong but we're alive
and through these silver nights we'll wander
across long mornings full of wonder
until we find the lives we need, we will survive
even better-
we will thrive.
