Reflections
“I will never pass for a perfect bride, or a perfect
daughter.”- Mulan
‘Reflections,’
The lotus flower says
As the murky brown water
Shows her an ugly image of herself
‘They never show who we really are’
“Who is that girl I see?
Staring straight
Back at me?
Why is my reflection someone I don't know?” - Mulan
As the lotus flower
Drifts away
Down the river
She tries to show others
Her beauty
That she knows she possesses
But the others
Only see her reflection
She can see past reflections
‘Why can’t others?’
She asks
As she continues to float down the river of life
Why must she
Be judged
By her friends
Whom while she loves them
Very much
They hinder her ability to make new friends
With the other flowers
Why won’t the others
Look past the reflections
And look at each other
For who they really are
Be it good
Or bad
All she wants
Is to bloom
And bloom
And bloom
Is to grow
And grow
And grow
Until she is who she wants to be
Until she can force her reflection
To reflect who she really is
