My Distant Neighbor
Began without my knowledge
That one miniscule neighbor we shared
Could blossom into what there is now
On the onset of the first encounter
Young, pale face of hers blend with the rest
Opening the door to each other’s lives
But it was her that couldn’t fully walk into
Anyone’s household
She was all alone
Being treated like a door mat
In time, it seemed as if
Being stepped upon so often
She chose
She chose she will be a door mat for no man!
Dusting herself off on her own time,
Broke into my house
And I let her steal anything she needed
Just allowing her to feel at home,
Her new home
Sun setting
Having to go through nights of unrest
Depressed
She became possessed
By what she would refer to as
Burning, yet placid escape
But she very well knew she must go
Through an exorcism
She did,
Rising from the ashes of her past
It was a mystery how long she’d last
But she did
Hammering down the walls
Of her self-made cage
The wall was torn down,
Replacing it with a welcoming fence
Constructing her house,
Lacking of a doorstep,
All built on the foundation
Composed of ashes
Ashes, ashes, ashes.
Being the fertilizer of her grasses
But she mows the lawn plenty.
