My shoes were worn out,


and so was I.


Tired of running,


we both wanted to die.

but I couldn’t just leave,


without saying goodbye.


So I wrote my life,


on the sole of my shoe,

neat white ink,


against the midnight blue.


I wrote words of hate,


and my love for you.

I walked to the bridge,


but ignored the view,

I tossed my shoes,


and then I jumped too.

The author's comments:
I took a writing class this summer, and one day we went out on campus to a huge bridge. We noticed that the trees along side of the river were filled with hundreds of pairs of shoes. The one pair in particular that caught my eye had a ton of writing on the bottom, but it was too far away to read. For some reason my heart broke for these shoes, and so I wrote this - my first ever poem.
