studies on memory iv: sunlight
the loud yellow kind
bouncing off the sparkling snow and tumbling in through your window
on a frosty spring break
when i went to keep you company for a weekend
because you'd moved away
and didn't know anybody
it was the day i discovered my favourite song
that godawful french wiggle that to this day
has never left my head
and were we ever dancing,
even your little brothers and sisters,
all of us a jumble of arms and legs in that outrageous light
laughing like i had never laughed before
barefoot
breathing in the yawp of youth
and singing out the nonsense
that we were
