Don't Worry, Be Happy
“Don’t worry be happy!” is what you told me,
And that is what I did
I was a mere first grader,
Carefree and wild
You were my daddy
What more did I need?
But now you are gone
And I feel so alone
How can I not worry?
Are you smiling down on me?
Am I doing the right thing?
Am I growing into the woman you want me to be?
How can I not be sad?
For now you are gone
Leaving only your memories and legacy behind
Who will walk me down my wedding aisle?
Who will I go to baseball games with?
Who will love me in the way only a dad can?
I miss you everyday
I’m trying not to worry
I’m trying to be happy
But it isn’t easy
Things will never be the same
I can’t bring you back
I can only look up at the sky, smile
And hope that you are smiling back
Urging me on
Telling me
“Don’t worry, be happy!”
