I was supposed to drown in your arms,
but the sea got to me first.
I was taken out and tossed, pulled under and choked,
and somehow, the jarring salt-water that
mercilessly, relentlessly shocks my eyes
is still less electrifying, less mind-stirring
than your picture in my mind.
