holyheaded handshake fall in love and feel the burn
holyheaded handshake fall in love and feel the burn
when we needed family you were there to make us learn
did the differences between us know our feelings or our fears
when we first got drunk and wandered, did it creep between our ears
beautiful and memorable and entirely all wrong
when we needed shelter you provided only song
did the fingers of the rain that night belong to you or I
when we craned our necks to watch the world come falling from the sky
trembling apparition in the grass beside my feet,
when we howled with hunger you would not let us eat
did the lies we told each other discount any of our truth
when we fell upon each other in an attempt to love this youth
you are not to blame for all the ways we came apart
when we both knew our own limits we set out to break your heart
did we permanently wound you or just limit you awhile
when you did not return our guilty juniper jazz smiles
o, holyheaded handshake, fall in love and feel the burn
when we needed to forget, you forced us each to learn.
